Tonight’s visual diary is short and sweet. I would like to introduce a very good BBC documentary titled “The cutting edge – The magic of movie editing“.
This 90 minute features takes us through a brief history of editing from the oldskool linear editing methods to the modern art of digital non linear movie editing. This film also explains some of editing techniques in use in classic and modern films such as “seamless editing” as used in the Matrix.
We get very good expert commentary from directors such as Steven Spielberg , James Cameron, Ridley Scott and Quentin Tarantino as well as insights from blockbuster editors such as Zach Staenberg ( editor of The Matrix trilogy ) and Walter Murch about their editing practices on movies like the Matrix, Jaws, Terminator 2 and plenty of classics.
The full documentary can be purchased on Amazon but I have managed to find a 30 minute clip of this film on Google for you.
If you are at all interested in movies / video production / animation than this is a must see.
